Why Twitter Matters - And Why I Just Might Follow You

I use Twitter, the micro-blogging platform. Each post is limited to 140 characters, so it instills succinct, efficient expression. And you only receive regular posts from those people you choose to [...] ... Continue reading »

  • Well said! My value from Twitter is a combination of connections and conversations (Yes, sounds cliched!). I believe these two things are the currency of modern marketing. Knowing the right people will create additional connections, introductions, new business, etc. And the number of conversations I have is a true measurement of relevance. If people aren't talking to me, then there is something wrong. There is a third, more personal reason for Twitter - it helps maintain existing relationships. You can keep track of people you have off-line relationships with without that feeling of losing touch.
  • BrandMilitia: Thanks for your comment. I agree with you.

  • Cool, thanks. Kind of like in the mid-80's when adult
continuing-education classes for the first wave of PCs were all the
    rage.
  • Twitter also enables some good interaction with fans of your blog :)

  • Adam,
That's a great point. I don't know what my the duplication is, but I'm sure
that probably 20% of my regular blog readers are also Twitter friends.
    Thanks!

  • My Twitter contacts have provided me with level-headed insight into a variety of personal and professional questions: what to do when my home was burglarized, how to reach the target audiences of my clients, what to wear on Friday night… Twitter also allows me to do my part as a liaison to the world of public relations practitioners by showing the world that I’m not just another public relations spin-doctor, but that I’m a real person with ethical standards and personality.
  • Susan,
Great add to the conversation. I especially like your add of "showing the
world that I'm not just another public relations spin-doctor, but that I'm a
real person with ethical standards and personality."

  • I'm trying to cultivate my account on Twitter now so thanks for the tips. You seem like someone I'd like to follow but I also noticed that there's no link to your twitter account in the post or on your sidebar. Is that by design?
  • I have Twitter updates on my sidebar and my about page. But it's @maxkalehoff.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Ahh, I saw the twitter updates block, but strangely, there is no link to your twitter account or mention of your user name there to look up. I suppose I should have looked at the contact page... duh.
  • Hello, While you posted this a long time ago, its still relevant. Just wanted to let you know I posted a link to it on my website -- article's direct link: http://kathrynfialkowski.typepad.com/mentoring_...

I am on a quest to help mid-career individuals engage in the new media and help with their employability. Thanks for your blog.
